SOUTHPORT RFC COLTS V PERCY PARK RFC COLTS AND THE REST

SOUTHPORT RFC COLTS V PERCY PARK RFC COLTS AND THE REST

Graham Ellis24 Mar 2017 - 23:35

Southport’s Junior Colts invite you to join them as their 16th Man for their Northern Divisional Shield Final at Waterloo Road this Sunday.

Colts Manager Martyn Symes asks the question "What better way for your mum to celebrate her special day than watching 70 minutes of gladiatorial combat on the pristine turf?"

And how better to motivate our mini and junior players than seeing lads they have trained next to every weekend taking to the field in the black, red and gold, competing for a major trophy and striving to reach a national semi-final!

The Colts have already had a great season. One of their objectives was to inspire others to do the best they could for their club by striving for success and letting the rest of the rugby world know Southport is a club with a future, a club to watch! Help them to achieve that by giving them your support.

Kick-off will be at 13:30.

Club President and Historian Graham Ellis adds "Never mind this being a prestigious game in its own right it is also features two clubs both formed in 1872 and for good measure it is ninety years to the day that Southport First XV played its first match at the newly laid Waterloo Road pitch as the club gradually moved lock, stock and barrel from Victoria Park which became home to the Flower Show." Mothers Day and flowers, it was meant to be!

Today features the return fixture with Glossop at Waterloo Road hopefully without the rigmarole of last weekend which Southport will approach in good heart. This is the penultimate home fixture of the season and a good crowd is anticipated for what should be a case of unfinished business. As ever admission is free so why not pop down and watch two well matched teams go for it, four if you include the Thirds at home to Liverpool St Helens 2s over the wall.

Good luck tomorrow to the under 16s away at Vale of Lune in the quarter final of the Lancashire Cup and again an age group looking to make its mark having finished runners up last season. Also to the under 14s away at Warrington in the Lancashire Vase Semi Final.

The under7/8/9/10s host Blackburn 'over the wall' whilst the under11/12/13/15s also train at Waterloo Road along with our under 6 as usual prior to the big match on the main pitch.

Southport RFC extends a warm welcome to all our visiting teams, officials and supporters over the weekend.
