Graham Suthren

Southport RFC6 Nov - 14:00

Rest in peace, Graham Suthren.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Southport Rugby Football Club clubman, Graham Suthren who passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday 6th of November 2024.

Former first-team back-row player, Graham held many roles off the pitch too at Southport RFC, such as first team head coach, colts head coach and community coordinator.

Words shared by friends:

Gareth Lang "Graham, a beloved mentor, friend, and guiding presence in my life, Graham played a pivotal role in introducing many of us to rugby, sparking a passion that shaped who I am today. His influence extended far beyond the game; he was a pillar of strength during difficult times, standing by us with unwavering kindness. When our Colts team suffered the tragic loss of a teammate in a house fire, Graham was there driving us all the way to Scotland for the funeral. His compassion and support left an indelible mark on each of us. Even in recent years, Graham could still be found on the sidelines, cheering us on and sharing his pride in the paths we’d taken. He often remarked, with his characteristic humility, “I haven’t done too bad, have I?” as he saw his former players - myself and Joe Mawdsley among them - step into leadership roles as captains of the first team. Graham’s impact on our lives was profound, and his warmth and encouragement will be deeply missed.
They don’t make people like Graham anymore. Rest in peace, dear friend, and thank you for everything you’ve done for me personal and I’m sure many others."

Dave Oliver "Graham was idolised by all of us when he coached us in the under 14s, 16s and colts. We all thought the world of him and still do. This is such sad news. RIP Graham"

Benedict Swinson "I would like to echo Pugs and thank Graham for his support around the time we lost lewis as well as his impact on my life personally. Rugby has afforded me friends and family from all 4 clubs I have played for, for all the laughs and good times I would have never had without Graham introducing myself and many others to this wonderful game of ours. His kindness and generosity of time invested in so many others has made Southport and Rugby a better place. Much love Graham"

Nicolas Hayes "What a bloke.. hugely positive influence on soo many young rugby players. Epitome of a gentleman, RIP mate x"

Bill Nichol "I had so much respect for you as a coach Graham, and we had many good discussions on what was best for the club, when I arrived in 2000. You even got my daughter to play touch rugby for her school, although I'm not sure it was the rugby that attracted her! A true gentleman and a good friend, you will be sadly missed by us all. Our condolences to the family, RIP Graham Suthren"

Steven Carruthers "Rest is peace Graham…was an honour and pleasure to play with and know you. Echo all the eulogies posted, testimony to a true legend of Southport RFC. Thoughts with family and friends."

Ben Ling "Above all else an extremely caring and passionate individual! A man who positively impacted so many individuals and helped guide the lives of so many with such ease and such fun! A true legend! Thank you for being my best ever coach Graham! Much love to him and all his family and friends at this difficult time."

Nick Avery "It's difficult to say things that haven't already been said, these eulogies are a measure of the man, who I had the privilege of playing and drinking with. RIP Graham and condolences to his family."

True gentleman and a legend of our club; Graham will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Davina and family.
